This award is given annually to an organization that demonstrates exceptional innovation in design, presentation, and implementation in the parks and recreation field in South Carolina. This award is contemporaneous with Carolina Studios’ newest location opening in the Forest Park Playground in West Ashley, but also with the massive progress the organization has made in 2009.
September 2009 -- Carolina Studios brings youth program to West Ashley! Our newest location just opened this month and we are very excited! The studio is located at 780 West Oak Forest Drive at the Forest Park Playground in the recreation center adjacent to the aquatic center. Due to the closing of Frasier Elementary School downtown, and due to the fact that our Mall Park location was too close to our Mary Street location, we have decided to essentially move the Mall Park location to West Ashley. It is great news because now we will be able to reach a much wider range of eager children. August 2009 -- Carolina Studios to be at Shinefest on October 17th! Shinefest is Charleston's newest all-day charity music festival, featuring a bundle of popular local bands, plus Blues Traveler, The Wailers, The Blue Dogs, Jeff Sipe, and Jeff Coffin. Carolina Studios’ Executive Director, Ms. Johnnie Mitchell, says, “This is such an awesome opportunity for our kids to be introduced to the 'world stage' where they hopefully will be motivated to stay in school, achieve, and strive for success in the world…”
According to Mark Bryan, Board Chairman, and founding member of Hootie and The Blowfish, “The basis for Carolina Studios is in-studio music and computer education. The opportunity for the kids to perform their songs live at Piccolo Spoleto, to the tracks they have created themselves, adds an exciting new wrinkle to our program.
